Nimisha Patel, LCSW, LD
Nimisha is a compassionate cis-gender, Asian Indian woman born in Tanzania, East Africa, and later raised in England. Her journey into mental health and nutrition began in Chicago, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Nutrition and Medical Dietetics. Approximately 30 years ago, she embarked on her path as a Food and Mood Therapist, initially specializing in eating disorders as a dietitian. Over time, she expanded her expertise, becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, providing psychotherapy as well as nutrition therapy to adults grappling with anxiety, depression, and various eating disorders.
Under the umbrella of her “Food and Mood Freedom” therapy and education groups, Nimisha targets the emotional and nutritional roots of emotional eating, incorporating insights from gut, brain, and hormone health. She employs a multifaceted approach, blending Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and mindful/intuitive eating techniques to equip her patients with the tools needed to manage their emotional eating struggles effectively. Moreover, she is dedicated to understanding how eating disorders manifest within diverse BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities, conscientiously integrating this awareness into her practice and professional education.
Currently residing in Plano, Texas, Nimisha loves to explore the outdoors, whether hiking in the picturesque landscapes of England’s Lake District or taking in the scenic beauty of the Rockies, Smokies, and the Blue Ridge Parkway in the United States. For Nimisha, nourishment extends beyond food; it encompasses laughter, connection, and the joy of shared meals with friends.
